Hi Alan,
Thanks for the permissions. I recall reading somewhere that you had done some testing on the ideal estimated in-room response tilt (downward). Is this true? What did you find? Based on Erin's measurements, we definitely see a variety of "tilts". I wonder if this can be expressed in -dB/octave. Naturally, not all speaker mfg are aiming for a linear EIRR. Any thoughts appreciated.

We base our in room response (and speaker design in general) on the research work that was performed over many decades by Floyd Toole et al. His research is based on the correlation between what people subjectevly hear and like, and measured speaker response data. So it's not some kind of unproven technical theory, it is very much based on controlled subjective listening tests.
This video of one of his lectures is a good starter. Essential viewing if you want a better understanding of how and why speakers sound as they do. It's also essential for understanding my following explanations.
