[#14]

It's been a busy week at March Audio. 5 pairs of Sointuva speakers on final listening tests before shipping.

Marri, Blackbutt Woods and a matte anthracite grey painted finish.

What's the collective noun for a bunch of speakers? 😀

Will you (and the speakers) be in the Purifi section in Munich?
or where?

Hi

Yes. Purifi are using them for demonstration on their stand/room. Amps will be (ASFAIK) just on static display there.

I will be there.

I only have read the lines now. That’s great. Normal with the level of your speakers. And a reference that Purifi chose them…
I would also be happy to make a demonstration with my Ukkonen and my purifi 9040 monoblocs. 😊.
Perhaps onmag will organise a demonstration?

As Pierre Stemmelin knows a lot about your Sointuva and everybody is talking about the Ukkonen and the new coming Kuoro.
Would be interesting to see people opening a mouth like the Wolf in Tex Avery. And me saying I’m happy.

Yes, I could have seen this myself by the graph below: 1.9 kHz. Sorry and thanks anyway.

March Audio was back at the show with their new Kuoro loudspeaker (brighter red) which fits in between the Sointuva bookshelf speakers (finished in natural wood) and the Ukkonen (darker metallic red) flagship speaker. They also showed off their new P801 monoblock power amp.

Unlike the Ukkonen/Sointuva, which both use an SB Acoustics tweeter with a waveguide, the new Kuoro uses a Purifi tweeter. The difference is that the Kuoro has wider directivity than the Ukkonen/Sointuva. I didn't ask to see the measurements, but given previous measurements by Erin, I am sure that Alan has done a good job. Unfortunately, I preferred the sound of the SB Acoustics tweeter of the older speakers. The Purifi tweeter seemed to smooth things over too much. Alan said that he will be sending these speakers to Erin, so let's wait a few months and see what Erin's Klippel says. I will be particularly interested in comparing the top end of the two speakers.

Alan, can you please comment on these observations between the two tweeters?

The wider directivity of the Purifi tweeter means that for a given flat on axis response they will actually sound brighter than the SB Acoustics. The slope of the in room response will be less pronounced.

Feedback from visitors to the Sydney show a few months ago was that they were indeed too bright, hence we have tweaked the level of the tweeter down a little.

From that one visitors response, perhaps too much in his view. Its great to get this feedback. That was the whole reason for taking the speakers to the show. They are not finalised for release yet and we wanted to get as many people's views as possible before finalising the design.

The wider feedback from show visitors didn't mention them sounding too smooth, but I certainly will take the feedback into account.
