Alan, the P801 has front red power on LEDs. Are you:

1. Open to changing the LEDs to blue (as a custom order, paying extra costs involved, of course)? I watch TV in the dark, and red is a very distracting color in the dark.

2. I always found red LEDs triggering, associating them with danger and/or blood (of all things), hence the preference for blue LEDs, like many power amps.

@Alan March Oh that is great that Blue LEDs are now an option again, it wasn't at the time of my purchase, is this something that can be retrofitted for existing customers, can owners order it & replace it themselves or will it void the warranty?

Edit: I recall our previous discussion now regarding customer feedback on the Blue LED availability, you had mentioned "Regarding your previous enquiry regarding power LED colour, we chose red because it is less intrusive than blue. Many customers find a bright blue LED quite distracting and annoying. I wouldnt say that most products go for blue. As a result of this customer feedback we have stopped providing blue LED as an alternative."

I'm assuming the Blue LED that you offer now is much less intrusive than your standard Red LED?

I find the Red LED fairly bright but not necessarily intrusive, would be curious to see how the Blue LED constrasts with the Black enclosure. 😉

It will be blue against black instead of red against black.

We dont provide it as a selectable option anymore. Most people do find bright blue intrusive, and we sold very few with that option.

Generally we really do try and avoid customer requested design modifications for obvious reasons. I try to dissuade customers.

We dont keep the blue in stock anymore. Therefore we would purchased it in low quantity. It will be much more expensive for the customer. It takes our time to procure and manage etc. They may change their minds when they find out the extra cost.

If its something you really must have, the amp would need to come back to us for modification.

I understand, well I guess Red is more in keeping with March Audio's colour scheme & design philosophy, White, Red & Black. 🙂

Thanks and good to hear ... do you have a rough figure for the costs involved for this option? If its prohibitive, I guess I could always tape a dark filter over the LED switch. In my case, my Oppo UHD-205 player, power conditioner, SMSL DACs have blue lights, so a matching power amp would be nice.

@Alan March Hey Alan, I looked into the pricing of these piezo switches & I didn't realise how costly they really are, particularly the brand APEM which looks very similar to what is utilised in your amps, are you able to confirm if they are from APEM?

APEM Piezo Switch Red LED Ring

I was expecting around $50 but prices seem to vary from $90-$150, so I can certainly see why they would be quite cost prohibitive for the customer.

@Alan March Thanks, so just under $200 that is rather pricey but not too bad considering the quality of manufacture, so they are an APEM switch, if so, they appear to be the best on the market, a real quality product. 🙂

@Alan March ... I may be imagining things but has the price of the P801 gone up maybe ~US $100 in the past few weeks?

Our base prices are set in AUD. The P801 price has not changed for some while and the last change was a decrease in price.

However what's happening is the US Dollar is devaluing. Its fallen a good 10% generally, and about 7% specifically against the Australian dollar in the last 6 months. We all know why.

Our international pricing on the website is dynamic and is updated twice per day for the latest exchange rates. Hence you will see the USD price rise as the US dollar continues to fall. IMO it will continue this trend.

Thanks for the detail. Good to know! I know there's another 10% tariff charge to have UPS/FedEx/DHL delivery it to a US recipient.:cautious:

@Alan March : ado you plan to test your amps via the new 2024 FTC rules?

Hi

Absolutely not. The FTC tests are an irrelevant joke. They are simply not fit for purpose and dont help the consumer.
